TOYOTA HIGHLANDER 2016
ALL NEW FEATURES
The 2016 Highlander was designed with excitement in mind. A bold, aggressive grille aids airflow, while the available LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) add style and visibility. And its available Chromtec® roof rails are integrated, which means when you aren’t using them to carry your accessories, their aerodynamic shape minimizes the noise coming from overhead.
Adjustable power liftgate:
This available feature allows you to open the rear liftgate and adjust how high it opens with the press of a button. If you have a garage with low clearance or a covered parking spot, you know how much this matters. And there’s no need to open the entire liftgate to quickly grab something small. Just use the available flip-up rear hatch window for easy access.
Even the wheels were designed to turn heads. Highlander Limited looks sharp with 19-in. Chromtec® wheels, XLE has 18-in. machined-face alloy wheels with gunmetal gray finish, LE Plus has unique 18-in. machined-face 5-spoke alloys, and LE features a stylish 5-spoke alloy wheel.
Easy in/easy out:
Busy days mean getting in and out of your vehicle a lot. Let’s make it easier. We started by adjusting the cushion height, creating more room between the seat and the roofline of Highlander.
Highlander's available leather-trimmed heated 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat gives you maximum comfort on all your journeys. Highlander Limited features perforated leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats for all-season comfort. The distinctive accent-color seat stitching adds visual contrast and unique style. You can also keep your hands warm on chilly days with the heated steering wheel available with the Platinum Package.
A smarter dash:
The dashboard gets touched a lot. That’s why we made it with softer materials that are easier on your fingers. It also gets looked at a lot, so we added metallic accents and available wood-grain details to please the eyes. Its handy in-dash shelf gives you easy access to the power and USB ports 5 and keeps cables neatly stowed away.
Seating for up to 8:
Highlander’s roomy interior gives you enough space to seat up to eight people and provides more comfort along the way with reclining third-row seats. Available second-row captain’s chairs help Highlander comfortably seat seven and offer the same great versatility. You can even get heated second-row captain's chairs on the Limited grade with Platinum Package.
Increased cargo space:
Waste no space. We designed the rear suspension of Highlander to create more space in the cargo area for your gear. 7 And since every journey’s different, Highlander is there to adapt. Sometimes you’ve got lots of people, lots of gear, or a mix of both. The 60/40 split third-row seat has the ability to fold flat and recline to accommodate your needs.
Part of enjoying the road is to not hear it. Highlander has silencing insulation materials along its floor to help keep things quiet, as well as acoustic-type glass in the windshield to further reduce noise entering the cabin.
In-seat entertainment for everyone. Your passengers have the whole sky to entertain them, thanks to the available panoramic moonroof that is part of the Platinum Package.
Keep the discussion going with the standard conversation mirror located above the rearview mirror. It allows you to quickly glance back to those in the rear seats, and as an added bonus, it also conceals a storage compartment for sunglasses.
Entertaining from the driver's seat is tough. Let the available Blu-ray Disc™ rear-seat entertainment system help. The 9-in. display screen comes with RCA jacks, remote and two wireless headphones.
SiriusXM® Satellite Radio:
Only SiriusXM® Satellite Radio 8 brings you more of what you love, all in one place. Enjoy over 150 channels of coast-to-coast coverage, including commercial-free music plus the best sports, news, talk, comedy and entertainment. SiriusXM® Satellite Radio-equipped Toyota vehicles come with a 3-month complimentary trial of the SiriusXM All Access package.
Highlander XLE and Limited come standard with Integrated Navigation, 14 so you can get lost in your music without getting lost on the road. And with the Multi-Information Display’s turn-by-turn navigation feature, your next move is always within sight. With just a glance, you’ll get turn-by-turn directions on the available 4.2-in. color LCD display located within your sightline in front of your steering wheel.
Three-zone automatic climate control:
No matter where you go, the temperature’s perfect inside. The three-zone climate control available on Highlander features individual temperature controls for the driver and front passenger, along with a separate control panel in the back for the second- and third-row vents.
Standard backup camera with projected path:
When it comes to safety and convenience, Highlander delivers. Whether you're backing up or parallel parking, the standard backup camera 20 can serve as a guide by showing what the camera detects on the touch-screen display.
Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert:
The available Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) 4 helps to heighten your awareness on the road by alerting you when a vehicle enters a blind spot on either side. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) 24 works similarly. When you slowly back out of a driveway or parking spot, it provides audible and visual indicators to warn you of approaching vehicles.
Fun to drive:
There are many reasons Highlander is fun to drive. But technically it's the double-wishbone rear suspension, impressive handling and ride comfort.
Two smart engines:
Highlander’s 4-cylinder engine squeezes the most performance out of every mile and every gallon. It surprises with 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, yet still manages an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. 13 The available V6 engine generates 270 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque, offering up to an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for FWD models.
Optimizing fuel efficiency means making enhancements all over. Like the transmission and efficient engine that help to enhance EPA mpg estimates and earn an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV-II) rating.
5000-lb. towing capacity:
Some adventures are so big you have to tow them. No problem. Highlander can be equipped to tow up to 5000 lbs.
Available Dynamic Torque-Control All-Wheel Drive:
When the road gets adventurous, Highlander embraces it with available Dynamic Torque-Control All-Wheel Drive (AWD). It distributes engine power from front to rear and manages the vehicle’s braking system from side to side, giving you better control.
IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus:
Exciting to drive and help keep you safe. Highlander and Highlander Hybrid have been recognized for their high levels of safety by being named a 2015 IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus when equipped with an available pre-collision system. 25 Both vehicles not only are designed to help protect you in a crash, but also to help you avoid one. Because every adventure should be a safe one.
Star Safety System:
Highlander features the Star Safety System™, a suite of six active safety features that include Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), 15 Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) 12 and Smart Stop Technology® (SST).
Ventilated disc brakes:
When brakes get too hot, they can become less effective. It’s called brake fade, and it’s a surprise no driver wants. To help prevent it, Highlander’s front brakes use a ventilated disc design, which helps to dissipate heat and ensure confidence in the vehicle’s stopping power.
Advanced Airbag System:
An Advanced Airbag System 21 helps protect you and your family with driver and front passenger dual stage airbags, driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags, a driver knee airbag, a front passenger seat-cushion airbag and Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags (RSCA) for all rows.
Child safety seat restraint system:
LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) provides an added measure of safety for the smaller members of your family. LATCH includes lower anchors and tethers on the outboard second-row seats and a tether anchor on the middle seat of the second and third rows.
Tire Pressure Monitor System:
A Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) 10 comes standard on every Highlander. Designed to monitor tire pressure at all times, it alerts the driver when a tire or tires become critically underinflated and is one more way Highlander helps keep you safe.
